Longboat Key is a barrier island and town located on Florida's Gulf Coast just west of Bradenton and Sarasota. Just south of Anna Maria Island and South Bradenton Beach, Longboat Key has miles of white sand beaches all its own. On the eastern side of the island along Sarasota Bay and among the canals are homes and apartments within walking distance of upscale restaurants, open-air bars, and boat clubs. Many of Longboat Key's residents own boats, and it's common to see rentals include a private boat dock or slip. Attractions like the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, and Sarasota Jungle Gardens entice tourists and residents, as do the beaches and gathering points such as Beer Can Island. Traveling to the mainland is easy via the John Ringling Causeway.
